Now he is by far the biggest damage dealer in the party and just a beast overall. My Brawler has like 1000 kills at level 11, and I just equipped him with a Mill Hammer which does beastly damage, much more than the Brass Knuckle they start with. Since they can perform combo attacks, you will often get 2, 3, even 4 shots on a single enemy, with the chance of hitting another enemy once the first one dies. You may want to consider a Brawler as well. Now I have a level 9 Lord with a 7 in Piety, and his healing spells seem to be pretty useless. Seems like common sense but I (stupidly) ignored the stat increases and losses on each level up. More advice that I'm just figuring out (sorry, I'm a dungeon-crawl RPG newbie here!), make sure you pay attention to each level up and make sure you get the stats you want! Leveling up your Cleric to level 7 and not getting any bonus points to Piety could be a real problem, as your healing spells are going to be much weaker. If you search for secrets on the first time through, you will know that all uncovered area on your map has been scoured for secrets. Why? If you explore and then expect to come back later, you will have a much harder time figuring out where you've checked and where you haven't. Using your own maps is great to mark where the hidden switches are as well, as well as marking which walls you've checked for hidden switches and doors (since they are hidden, it's almost impossible to tell where you've checked for them if you don't do it the first time you explore an area.) That would be more advice I would give - search for hidden doors and switches *the first time you explore an area*. There are some incredibly intricate dungeons, it's almost unreal. Mapping the levels themselves is a good idea. I often just save a lot and re-load if something goes horribly wrong in a dungeon. Keep in mind that characters age 1 year when they are resurrected, so you don't want to die too often. I believe it can be cured, but it costs more GP and can take several tries to fix. Thanks for the information, Fluent.īeing reduced to ashes is a funny thing. Rather than spend 2000 extra gold, I decided to just make a new character.Īnyway, I'm still having a shot at the game here and there. That was a nice 2nd Edition AD&D like moment. I think the nastiest encounter so far has actually been when trying to raise my first level 3 cleric at the temple, only to have her reduced to ashes. I no longer have to use magic map now, which is handy. I even got my ol' Might and Magic graphic paper sheets (from my c64 version of the first game) photo-copied at work the other day just so I could muck around mapping out the first level properly. I can probably live without it though, just like I'm doing without a Bishop. My fighter and hunter are a decent combination though after this thread, am now considering my options on the alchemy front. Still really getting used to the engine and travelling between the first three levels of the first dungeon (caves). I've played for a few more hours and have gradually got my basic party to around level 7.
